Welcome to "Digging Deeper" the AZMNH Blog

At the Arizona Museum of Natural History, every object, fossil, exhibit and program has a story to tell.

Some stories are millions of years old. Some are rooted in the people and cultures of the Southwest. Some begin with a student seeing a fossil up close for the first time, a volunteer helping a visitor find their way or a family discovering something new together on a summer afternoon.

That is the idea behind Digging Deeper, AZMNH’s new blog.

Digging Deeper will explore the scientific wonders, stories and connections that make AZMNH a hub of discovery. Twice a month, we will share perspectives from across the museum, including curators, educators, guest services staff, volunteers, interns, museum leadership, exhibitions staff and members of the Arizona Museum of Natural History Foundation.

Some posts will take you behind the scenes. Others will highlight the people who care for collections, create exhibits, lead programs, welcome guests and support the museum’s future. You will hear about fossils, fieldwork, anthropology, education, membership, community partnerships and the everyday work that helps bring the museum to life.

The goal is simple: to give you a closer look at the museum you already know, and a new way to discover parts you may not see on a regular visit.

AZMNH is more than a place to view the past. It is a place where people connect with science, history, culture and each other. It is where students can see classroom lessons come to life. It is where families can build memories across generations. It is where researchers, educators, volunteers, visitors and supporters all play a part in preserving stories and sharing knowledge.

This blog will give us space to tell those stories more fully.

In the months ahead, you can expect posts about why field trips matter, how exhibits become stories, what volunteers bring to the museum, how collections are cared for and how membership and giving help support future discovery. You will also hear from the people who make AZMNH work every day.

We hope Digging Deeper helps you see AZMNH in a new way, whether you are a longtime visitor, a teacher planning a field trip, a volunteer, a museum member or someone discovering us for the first time.

Thank you for reading, exploring and being part of the AZMNH community.

There is always more to discover.
